Gemma Mengual, Ona Carbonell y Actimel, homenajean al 2016

La nadadora Gemma Mengual, entrena a pleno rendimiento en el CAR de Sant Cugat del Vallés junto a Ona Carbonell , con la que nadará a dúo en los Juegos Olímpicos de Río. A Gemma, de 38 años y madre de dos niños, le picó de nuevo el gusanillo de la competición, de la que estaba retirada desde los 34 años, y se replanteó volver a las piscinas participando en los Mundiales de Natación de Kazán (Rusia), en los que formó pareja con Pau Ribes,  quedando quintos  en el dúo mixto de natación sincronizada.

Después de pensarlo junto a su pareja,  con la que estaba a punto de contraer matrimonio, decidieron posponer la boda, porque la nadadora necesitaba volver a la natación en la que siente que todavía puede aportar algo. Si todo va bien, para la catalana está será su cuarta cita olímpica.

1La marca Actimel, reunió a las dos deportistas  en la playa de Sant Sebastián de Barcelona,  para que antes del Primer Baño del Año,  una iniciativa popular que organiza desde hace 18 años el Club Natación Atlétic Barceloneta, participen en el reto que la marca de productos lácteos quiso ofrecer,  a modo de regalo, a todos los asistentes y que consistía en ver una coreografía  en el mar del dúo olímpico.  Una vez finalizaron la exhibición, participantes de  todas las edades corrieron al agua. Una fresa manera de homenajear al 2016.

Una gran fiesta ha puesto el punto final a la Volvo Ocean Race en la ciudad de Gotemburgo (Suecia) que acoge la sede de la regata y que ha ganado, merecidamente, el Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing.

Pero quedaba la última regata costera por recorrer, la Inmarsat In-Port Race Gotemburg, donde el VO65 español Mapfre capitaneado por el regatista olímpico, Iker Martínez, ha quedado cuarto en la clasificación general empatando con Team Avendica en una etapa en la que la faltaba viento. Esto le obligó a acortar el recorrido, y ha ganado el equipo holandés Team SCA.

S.M. el Rey Juan Carlos I ha visitado el barco español y se ha embarcado como invitado de excepción para apoyar al equipo español en la última etapa de las nueve, que ha constado la vuelta al mundo. El monarca muy feliz de poder volver a navegar, después de cuatro años sin hacerlo: “Estoy encantado. Es emocionante estar aquí. Apoyo siempre a los españoles de todos los deportes”.

Una jornada especial para el rey emérito ya que en la final de la Volvo ha tenido ocasión de reunirse con 18 tripulantes del Bribón y recordar años de competición junto a Josep Cusi. Todos los antiguos compañeros se reunieron en el escenario de la regata para homenajear al patrón y al armador de la “saga” Bribón.

Pero don Juan Carlos no ha sido el único miembro de una casa real que ha participado en esta final, la princesa Victoria de Suecia, también, se ha puesto al timón apoyando a las chicas de Team SCA.

Poco a poco nos van llegando más noticias de los componentes de los equipos a bordo de los barcos participantes y nos enteramos de las penurias que pasan estos deportistas durante estos meses de competición en los que, además luchan contra las olas. Por ello, ahora todos son reconocimientos para los ganadores.

Matt Knighton, reportero a bordo del Abu Dhabi Ocena Racing, ha ganado el Premio Inmarsat al Reportero a Bordo de la Volvo Ocean Race 2014-15. El galardón lo ha reconocido como el mejor de los nueve que durante nueve meses han acompañado a la flota del evento alrededor del mundo proporcionando fotos, video y textos a pesar de ciclones, olas de varios metros o calor insoportable, en uno de los entornos más duros para realizar este trabajo que existen. Cada día, desde la popa del barco donde se situaba un pequeño escritorio, los reporteros de a bordo hacían llegar sus crónicas cada 24 horas a la central de Alicantes.

El galardón consiste en un cheque de 20.000 euros que le fue entregado por el presidente de Inmarsat, Ruper Pearce. La empresa de comunicaciones vía satélite que ha hecho posible la transmisión del trabajo de los reporteros que han estado a bordo de las naves. Amory Ross (Team Alvimedica), y Sam Greenfield (Dongfeng Race Team), han quedado finalistas, y han percibido 8.000 euros cada uno.
